Licorice root is famous as a sweetener, being 50-70x sweeter than sugar. A perennial legume, the plant is a slow starter, but by its 2nd year makes a stand of 4-6’ stalks that return every spring for many years.
The root makes a great tea, and also has many traditional health-enhancing uses.
