This beautiful heirloom
beefsteak takes its name –
Malakhitovaya Shkatulka –
from the malachite mined in
the Ural mountains that was
used to make jewelry boxes in
18th and 19th century Russia.
Medium-size green fruits are
streaked with golden yellow
when ripe. Fabulous flavor is
complex and compelling, more
savory than sweet.
