Not your modern sesame,
which was bred for oil
production and blandness.
This is the heirloom brought to
the Americas by enslaved
West Africans, and kept alive
through the centuries by their
descendants. Benne seeds are
brown, with a complex depth
to their flavor. Plants are 4-6’
tall. Seed capsules open when
ripe.
