Talk about an heirloom – there is evidence of the cultivation of these beans circa 5,000 BC. Smaller than the familiar tan garbanzo, and with an earthier, almost smoky flavor, Black Sicilian also has the distinction of holding its shape after long cooking. The skin retains an almost crunchy bite while the interior becomes dreamily creamy. Germinates in cool soil and will withstand light fall frosts. Attractive bushy mounds have a delicate look.
