The most beautiful popcorn, from Cherokee corn steward Carl Barnes. The kaleidoscope of colors includes perlescent red and russet, yellows dotted with colored kernels, and deep browns and blues spotted with yellow. Five-to-seven-inch ears with tight husk closures grow on robust eight-foot plants.
Popcorn needs to be very dry before it will pop properly. Leave ears on the plant until stalks dry if weather and varmints permit. Then shuck back the husks and hang the ears to dry more in a warm protected place.
