Aside from its use as a cooking oil, and a bird food, and a long tradition as a dye plant, safflower shines in the garden where its long-lasting flowers are just about as bright as orange gets. Up to 3 ft tall, with spiny thistle-like leaves and a multi-branching habit. It prefers full sun and low humidity environments, and please be aware it can take up to 3 weeks to germinate.
